Sambar

Sambar:

Ingredients:

Toor dhal
Chilly powder(sambar powder)
Coriander powder
Tamarind paste/a small ball of tamarind
Salt
Tomato-1
Onion-1(small)
Mustard
Urid dhal
Curry leaves
Vegetable(carrot/beans/cauliflower/potato/brinjal)
Vegetables are as per your wish and even the mixed vegetables will taste good for sambar
Turmeric powder
Asafoetida
Red chilly -4


Method:
1.Add a cup of toor dhal to one cup of water in a pan and allow it to cook .Add a 1/2 tsp of turmeric power ,cut the tomato into four pieces and add to the above while the dhal is cooking.
Allow it to cook for 15-20 min


2.Then once the dhal is cooked stir it so that the dhal is mashed properly .Add the vegetable to the dhal and add 1 tsp of chilly powder, 1 tsp of coriander powder,1 tsp salt and dilute the tamarind paste in half cup of water and add to the dhal and allow it to boil for 10 min .


3.Add oil in a frying pan and salute it with mustard ,urid dhal ,curry leaves,red chillies and add the chopped onions, to it and fry it until it becomes transparent. Then add this to the dhal .Sprinkle a pinch of Asafoetida to the above for flavours.


4.Cook for 3 min and serve hot with rice ,dosai.
